जितिया गीत – Jukebox 2022 || Alka Singh Pahadiya || Jitiya Song

The Jitiya Vrat is a fasting ritual observed by Hindu women, particularly in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh in India. It is usually observed on the eighth and ninth days (Ashtami and Navami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Ashwin in the Hindu calendar. The fast is dedicated to the well-being and long life of children.

While there isn’t a specific story associated with the Jitiya Vrat, the observance is often linked to a tale from Hindu mythology. One such story involves the queen of the Kashi kingdom. According to the legend:
**Story of Jitiya Vrat:**
Once, there was a queen in the kingdom of Kashi who had a son. The queen loved her son dearly, and one day, a sage visited the palace. The sage, through his divine powers, foresaw that the queen’s son had a short life span. Distressed by this revelation, the queen asked the sage for a solution to prolong her son’s life.
The sage advised the queen to observe a rigorous fast and perform specific rituals on the eighth and ninth days of the dark fortnight in the month of Ashwin. The queen faithfully followed the sage’s instructions and observed the Jitiya Vrat with utmost dedication.
Pleased with the queen’s devotion and commitment to the fast, the gods were pleased, and they granted a boon that extended her son’s life. From then on, the Jitiya Vrat became a tradition, and other women in the kingdom started observing it for the well-being and longevity of their children.
During the Jitiya Vrat, women observe a fast where they abstain from food and water for the entire day. The fast is broken only after sighting the moon on the ninth day. Women pray for the prosperity and long life of their children during this ritual.
It’s important to note that there may be variations in the story associated with Jitiya Vrat, as folklore and cultural traditions often have different interpretations.
